Weingut Max Ferd. Richter Juffer Riesling Kabinett Rocken 2020
Petrol and apricot waft unapologetically on the nose, and layers of citrus and cassis wash around on the palate. It starts off juicy juicy and finishes bright and mineral, even a bit playful.
The estate of Max Ferd. Richter has been passed down from father to son for the past 300 years. Currently, this incredible estate is being run by Dr. Dirk Richter, the 9th generation, and will eventually be passed down to his son Constantin. Can you imagine being the kids of these people? I mean, pressure much?! What if you just came out with no palate whatsoever? Or what if you hate kids and never want them and then you couldn’t keep the succession going? Or what if you dream your whole life of being on Broadway? Wine is such a specific field. Speaking of fields, the vineyard designation, Juffer, from the medieval German meaning “virgin lady,” notes the nearby convent that used to own large parts of the steep vineyard site. So I guess that means you can at least be a nun and still make wine. Phew!
