Major Wines 2017 Pinot Noir, Santa Barbara County
We, too, want to spray paint all over the walls about this wine! This super-small production (500 cases) Pinot from winemaker Andrew Major was sourced from vineyards in Santa Rita Hills and Santa Maria Valley, fermented with native yeasts for 10 days and then directly pressed into mostly neutral barrels (just a kiss of new French oak), where it dozed and did its magic untouched for 12 months. Fantastic! The nose is perfect pinot with raspberry, wet leaves, and spices, and a palate full of wild strawberry, plumb, coriander and pipe tobacco.
Plays well with salmon in almost any form including sushi and gravlax, veggie lasagna, and Honey Nut Cheerios.
